Decided to do an AU with a friend for our ship once just for fun. It ended catastrophically for me because it ended up revealing that her character would not even bother to be with mine if only a few minor factors were changed. I don’t know if I even have any willpower to RP the normal ship anymore with this new knowledge.

I really do love my partner. Neither of us have limits, as we’ve discovered; and if it’s taboo we seem to have an inherent curiosity for it. Everything from murder, genocide, human slave trafficking, enormous age-gaps, domestic abuse, incest, bestiality; the list goes on and on. And we don’t romanticize it either. That, I think, is key. It’s gritty and awful and a lot of study is involved but we do it.

Now, not to make it look like that’s all we do. We’ve done a lot of beautiful stuff. But just knowing your partner /would/ go there and would have no qualms. In regular RP, combat, smut… etc.
(It actually kind of worked that way in our smut too, depending on the characters they’d try newer and newer and kinkier things, either like it or not like it…)

There was always this moment though, wherein one of us wants to go in this direction and we don’t really know how to bring it up to the other. During this time there is absolutely no (rarely any) OOC discussion about the RP, but we make implications at it via our characters. Maybe one of them suggests it, wants to try something or thinks something is going to happen, and seem to forget about it later in the RP. Then it’s in the other writer’s court to either bring it back up or not.

The RP happens, and if one of us decides to bring the RP up OOC afterwards, there is a sudden explosion of “YOU’RE AWESOME” gushing and other waves of compliments… gotta love that bit.

Okay, so the story is that there was this one OC who followed my first character’s blog. On that occasion, I did follow them back but quickly figured out neither my character nor me liked her very much. Not because she was a bad character or the mun doesn’t know how to write, they do. This will sound bad, but this person’s OC downright annoyed us and not in a funny way.

So I unfollowed them and thought that was the end of it. Dead. Wrong. This character then followed my second OC’s blog, but this time (already knowing what to expect) I didn’t follow back. However, my OC’s wife did end up interacting with her and I thought ‘whatever’ coz the mun does what she wants, it’s her character. I didn’t think much of it and certainly didn’t expect her to try to interact with my OC since he wasn’t following her.

Again: Dead. Fucking. Wrong.

Recent events between her and my OC’s wife led to my OC’s intervention (with his wife only) and before I know it, that character sends mine a message apologizing, IC, if she disrespected his woman in any way. So yeah, now I have that message awkwardly sitting in my inbox and all I can think is “dude… I don’t even follow you back. Get the damn hint”.

Okay, to make a long story short, my muse (FFV’s Bartz) and my partner’s muse (FFII’s Maria [artemisxbow]) had developed a relationship through multiple threads of interaction, recently making it official. When they did, not only were the muns cheering, but so were many of our followers, even getting a piece of art out of the deal. Many people were boarding the “ship” long before it officially set sail. Even other muses were wondering when they were going to stop beating around the bush and hook up (when a Squall is doing this, you know shit’s real.)

It’s funny trying to explain this to my non-Tumblr friends because this would be considered a “crack” pairing under any other circumstance.

I don’t care if the mun leaving because you were being assholes to them has left you with inconveniently unfinished plotlines. It is asshole behaviour to take on someone’s developed character in a story without the mun’s permission and just keep playing with them the way you want them, especially if some of the attacks on the mun were about them not playing their character “correctly”. The only thing you’re doing is validating their decision to leave and showing everyone that you’re the kind of group not to be touched with a ten-foot pole.

If people are plotting something you aren’t comfy with, YOU DON’T HAVE TO GO ALONG WITH IT. Even if your character is mind-controlled or a slave or something, YOU CAN BREAK OFF PLOTS. RP is supposed to be fun, a hobby…and if you’re uncomfortable, it’s no longer fun. If you need an excuse for how they got free? Q. Or the Assiti. Or something. YOU CAN COME UP WITH SOMETHING.

My girlfriend and I have had this roleplay going for a really long time, and we’re finally getting to some of the best parts of the RP that she has been waiting to do for months. One of my characters was knocked out and kidnapped by one of her characters, and I thought it was a good time to get him to wake up so I asked her where he might be. She responds “Just in some room where [he] keeps the dead bodies”. And my first thoughts are “Oh my God, not again! Another character already did this! Why does it have to be him, too? Why are there so many psychopaths in this RP!?”
